Nakatane (中種子町 Nakatane-chō?) is a town located on Tanegashima or Tanega Island in Kumage District, Kagoshima, Japan.

As of 2003, the town has an estimated population of 9,473 and the density of 68.75 persons per km². The total area is 137.78 km².

New Tanegashima Airport is located in Nakatane.

Nakatane is featured in the Japanese animated feature film, 5 Centimeters Per Second, directed by Makoto Shinkai. It was released on March 3, 2007 in Japan.
