Mount Cemetery is a cemetery in Guildford, Surrey, England. It is situated to the south of Guildford on a hill overlooking the town centre. The cemetery is now full and is no longer able to accept further requests for burials unless the grave has been reserved or there is an existing family grave.[1]
Three particularly famous people have been laid to rest in Mount Cemetery:
- Edward Carpenter, the gay socialist poet and activist
- Lewis Carroll (Charles Dodgson), the author of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
- Edwin H. Dodgson, younger brother of 'Lewis Carroll' and a missionary
All five of Charles Dodgson's sisters are also buried in the cemetery.[2]
In 2005, Guildford Museum published . . .and the Lord Taketh Away, [3] an illustrated guide to the cemetery.
