A year at KHS

A school year at Karns starts in August. Some time later, during the football season, there is a special game observed by most American high schools called homecoming. At this game, students show their school spirit by participating in skits or attending the homecoming dance. Also, homecoming is a competition. In previous years, the girl who raised the most money or canned goods for charity was crowned homecoming queen.

As holidays approach, the school celebrates in its own way. One of the highlights is the special series of holiday lunches served in the cafeteria. Holiday lunches are often comprised of either turkey or ham with stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, and a piece of pumpkin or caramel pie. For the first time, students will celebrate the arrival of the weeklong fall break in October. Then students celebrate Thanksgiving with two and a half days free. Then the school closes for a a longer break over the winter holidays, with school usually starting about three days after New Year's Eve.

When school begins again, students start a new semester of classes. Students look forward to spring break, a week of vacation during which some students travel. Following spring break, toward the end of the school year, comes the Prom, and following that, graduation.
