Eclection

Eclection

The British folk-rock band Eclection was formed in August 1967 in London by Norwegian Georg Kajanus (then known as George Hultgreen), Australian Kerrilee Male, Canadian Michael Rosen, Australian Trevor Lucas and Brit Gerry Conway. They were given their unusual name by Joni Mitchell, a friend of Rosen's girlfriend. Under the watchful eye of Ossie Byrne (best known for producing the Bee Gees), they created one album, entitled 'Eclection', in 1968. They were one of the few British bands signed to Elektra Records and were a personal favorite of Elektra's founder and president, Jac Holzman. Election toured the UK extensively and appeared with such acts as Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan at the Isle Of Wight Festival.

Kerrilee Male left in October 1968 and was replaced by American folk singer Dorris Henderson, but the group broke up in October 1969.

Georg Kajanus went on to form Sailor, DATA and Noir with Tim Dry (Tik from Tik and Tok) and Trevor Lucas and Gerry Conway later joined Fairport Convention.

'Eclection' was re-issued on CD by Collector's Choice Music in November 2001.
