- Eclection
The British folk-rock band Eclection was formed in August 1967 in
London by NorwegianGeorg Kajanus (then known as George Hultgreen), Australian Kerrilee Male, Canadian Michael Rosen, AustralianTrevor Lucas and Brit Gerry Conway. They were given their unusual name byJoni Mitchell , a friend of Rosen's girlfriend. Under the watchful eye of Ossie Byrne (best known for producing theBee Gees ), they created one album, entitled 'Eclection', in 1968. They were one of the few British bands signed toElektra Records and were a personal favorite of Elektra's founder and president,Jac Holzman . Election toured the UK extensively and appeared with such acts asJimi Hendrix andBob Dylan at theIsle Of Wight Festival .Kerrilee Male left in October 1968 and was replaced by American folk singer Dorris Henderson, but the group broke up in October 1969.
Georg Kajanus went on to form Sailor, DATA and Noir with Tim Dry (Tik from
Tik and Tok ) and Trevor Lucas and Gerry Conway later joinedFairport Convention .'Eclection' was re-issued on CD by Collector's Choice Music in November 2001.
