governing_body =U.S. Forest Service The Trinity Alps Wilderness is a convert|525627|acre|km2|-1|sing=on wilderness area located in northern
California , roughly between Eureka and Redding. It is jointly administered by Shasta-Trinity, Klamath, and Six Rivers National Forests. It is located in the Salmon Mountains. The high,granitic peaks of the Eastern half of the wilderness area are known as theTrinity Alps .The Wilderness contains over convert|500|mi|km|-1 of hiking trails, including convert|17|mi|km|0 of the
Pacific Crest Trail . Many of the trails take several days to complete. The area also includes a great deal of small lakes.While some of the high lakes of the Alps themselves are popular, most of the area is rarely seen. Most of the trails are in poor condition and hard to follow, so skills with map and compass are essential. Black bears are common in the wilderness, so use a
bear bag or bear cannister.Private Land
Until recently, about convert|4000|acre|km2 of private land (
inholding s) remained within the Trinity Alps Wilderness. Purchases by theWilderness Land Trust have reduced this amount by more than 40%.External links
