Mike Moloney

Mike Moloney

Mike Moloney is an Irish radio DJ who went on air in 1978 on pirate station ARD 257 under the name Mike Morann.

He worked in Radio Leinster and then Radio Nova during the early 1980s.

Joined 2FM in 1984. After a brief stint on the weekday afternoon show, he moved to a midnight slot, where he broadcast for 14 years. Most well known for a show called Moloney After Midnight, which ran for most of the 1990s. Targeted at the 30 plus age group upwards, where it had a huge listenership, it developed a big following among late teens and college students, largely due to a comic character called Amelia GoLightly !!, who made insane commentaries on topical news and celebrities if the day. [1].

Moloney After Midnight had live guests on every night. They could be actors, writers or anyone, famous or obscure that Mike and his producer Maggie Stapleton thought would be interesting or entertaining. The show became most well known for the many and varied live music sessions that were broadcast.

After leaving RTÉ 2FM at Easter 2000, he joined the newly licenced easy listening station Lite FM (now Q102) in Dublin where he presented the Drivetime slot daily. He was let go from Lite FM in 2004 causing a very public rift between himself and the station's C.E.O. Scott Williams.

From Lite FM he did a short stint at Dublin's Country 106.8 where he again held the Drivetime slot in the schedule. He moved on from Dublin's Country 106.8 for the launch of the north-west's new local station Ocean FM where he was Drivetime presenter and, eventually became Head of Music AND Head of Outside Broadcasting. Mike Moloney left Ocean FM in November 2006 and retired from radio. He went into business with his wife running a large childcare facility in Sligo. They also designed several other childcare facilities in Sligo and Longford.

Summer 2010 Mike was invited, and agreed, to come out of retirement by new, Dublin based, station Radio Nova 100 (launch September 1st 2010)to present a Classic Rock / Sports show every Saturday and Sunday, 2-6 p.m.
