Founded 2007 Arena ThunderDome Based in Masury, Ohio Colors black, gold League Eastern Indoor Football League Head coach Jim Terry General manager Jim Terry The Mahoning Valley HitMen were a team in the Eastern Indoor Football League, a United States-based American football arena league, which was based in Masury, Ohio, United States, and coached and owned by Jim Terry. They were scheduled to begin play in the January 2007, as a member of the Eastern Indoor Football League.
The HitMen were scheduled to play their home games at the ThunderPlex in Brookfield Township, but have recently severed ties with the ownership, and since have announced a two-year lease to play at the Thunderdome in Brookfield/Masury, which is a former indoor baseball field/dome, which had become a storage facility for carnival and amusement operations. [1] The team planned to compete against the nearby Mahoning Valley Thunder of the af2 for fans and media attention.
On July 6, 2006, the team announced it would feature running back Maurice Clarett, previously of the Ohio State University Buckeyes (National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I) and Denver Broncos (National Football League), but Clarett was jailed on August 9, pending trial for sundry alleged offenses; Terry, who said he spoke to Clarett just prior to the latter's being arrested subsequent to a short chase, averred that the team would continue to support Clarett and retain him should he be available for play in 2007. The team played 4 games in front of only a few hundred people, then the league folded.
