"Good Ride Cowboy" is a single, released in 2005, by American country music artist Garth Brooks. The song is a tribute to Chris LeDoux, another country musician and friend of Brooks's.cite press release| title = Garth Brooks Boxed Set is Single Biggest Music Event in Wal-Mart History | publisher =Wal-Mart | date = November 29, 2005 | url =http://www.walmart.com/catalog/garth/news_2005-11-29.jsp?dept=4104 | accessdate = 2007-07-13] Released in late 2005 as a single, the song went on to peak at #3 on the "Billboard" Hot Country Songs charts.

About the song

Brooks briefly emerged from retirement in late 2005 to record the upbeat "Good Ride Cowboy", shortly after the death of singer Chris LeDoux. Brooks first performed the song at the CMA awards show, while the CMA Chairman's Award of Merit was presented in LeDoux's honor.cite web |url=http://www.garthbrooks.com/dialup/index.cfm?id=24&newsID=8 |title=Kix Brooks Enlists Garth Brooks To Honor LeDoux During "The 39th Annual CMA Awards" By Performing "Good Ride Cowboy" |accessdate=2007-07-13 |format=html |work=GarthBrooks.com]

The song was released in late 2005, debuting at #18 on the U.S. "Billboard" Hot Country Songs charts, which set a record at the time for the highest debuting single on the country charts since the inception of SoundScan in 1990. In an interview conducted with CMT, Brooks stated, "I knew if I ever recorded any kind of tribute to Chris, it would have to be up-tempo, happy ... a song like him ... not some slow, mournful song. He wasn't like that. Chris was exactly what our heroes are supposed to be. He was a man's man. A good friend."cite web | last = Smith | first = Hazel | coauthors = | title = A Conversation with Garth Brooks | work= | pages = | language = | publisher = Country Music Television | date = November 1, 2005 | url =http://www.cmt.com/artists/news/1512744/11012005/ledoux_chris.jhtml | accessdate = 2007-03-16]

It should be noted that there are two slightly different versions of this song. The first version appears on The Lost Sessions as included in The Limited Series box set. The second version appears on The Lost Sessions as a separate release and on The Ultimate Hits. The difference is in the first verse where the line "came an air-force brat" was accidentally written and recorded on the first version as "...navy brat". Chris LeDoux was not a navy brat, but rather an air-force brat.Fact|date=September 2008
