The Forty-first United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the
United States federal government, comprised of theUnited States Senate and theUnited States House of Representatives . It met inWashington, DC fromMarch 4 1869 toMarch 3 1871 , during the first two years of the first administration of U.S. PresidentUlysses S. Grant .The apportionment of seats in this House of Representatives was based on the Seventh Census of the United States in 1860. Both chambers had a Republican majority.
