Fletcher was born in
Derry, New Hampshire . He spent his childhood in both Derry and also nearby Peterborough and attendedPinkerton Academy [http://www.nh.gov/nhdhr/warheroes/stevensa.html] . In 1845, he was admitted to the New Hampshire Bar, and helped found the New Hampshire Republican Party in the mid-1850s.Civil War
During the Civil War, he served two terms of duty, one with the
1st New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry , which he spent stationed atHarper's Ferry , and another with the 13th New Hampshire. With the 13th, he participated in the disastrous attack against Marye's Heights in theBattle of Fredericksburg , and was wounded at both Drury Creek and Fort Harrison.He served two terms in the
United States House of Representatives before dying in Nashua.ee also
