George Woodward Greene

George Woodward Greene (July 4, 1831 - July 21, 1895) was a U.S. Representative from New York.

Born in Mount Hope, New York, Greene pursued classical studies and was graduated from the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia.He taught school.He studied law.He was admitted to the bar in 1860 and commenced practice in Goshen, New York. School commissioner for Orange County.He served as judge of the Orange County Courts 1861-1864. Presented credentials as a Democratic Member-elect to the Forty-first Congress and served from March 4, 1869, to February 17, 1870, when he was succeeded by Charles H. Van Wyck, who contested his election.He served as member of the State assembly 1885-1888.He died in New York City July 21, 1895.He was interred in "The Plains" Cemetery, Otisville, New York.
