KBVU began broadcasting on July 20, 1994 as the Eureka, California Fox affiliate.

It replaces a secondary FOX affiliate seen on KAEF since 1987.

Though Sainte Partners II, L.P. owns the license, the station is, in effect, run by Eureka Television [http://eurekatelevision.tv/] , which also operates the CBS (KVIQ), The CW (KUVU-LP), and Univision (KEUV-LP) outlets in the market.

The Eureka television market is the only TV market in California currently not available on either Dish Network or DirecTV.

Digital Television

FOX 29 is the first digital channel to be available on Suddenlink Digital Cable. Given the joint sales agreement with CBS 6, that channel will be soon to follow, on channel 706.
