*1918 -Lionel Groulx , becomes the firstpriest to publicly denounce what he considers injustices against French speakers. He denounces the unilingual English face ofMontreal , the absence of bilingualcoin s andbank note s, and the absence of French inOttawa , the federal capital.
*1918 - Women win the right to vote in Canadian federal elections. All provinces follow suit by1922 exceptQuebec , which does not give women the right to vote in provincial elections until1940 .
*1919 - On May 8, the branch ofUniversité Laval built in Montreal in 1878 becomes autonomous and is renamedUniversité de Montréal .
