International Creative Management (ICM) is a talent and literary agency with offices in Los Angeles, New York, and London. ICM is a full-service agency representing creative and technical talent in the fields of motion pictures, television, fiction and nonfiction publishing, music, live performance, branded entertainment and new media, under the leadership of Chairman and CEO, Jeffrey Berg,[1] and President, Chris Silbermann.[2]

History

ICM was formed in April 1975 through the merger of Creative Management Associates and International Famous Agency.[2] In 2005, ICM completed an equity financing raise from Rizvi Traverse Management and institutional investors to fund strategic growth,[3] and in July 2006, ICM signed an agreement to acquire literary agency Broder Webb Chervin Silbermann.[4]

Corporate Synergy

One of three full-service talent agencies, ICM focuses on four major areas of representation – film, television, live performance and publishing. The branded entertainment division complements each of these quadrants. Each of the departments works in tandem with the others.

Motion Pictures

ICM’s motion picture department represents film actors, actresses, directors and writers ranging from Hollywood’s best-known names to the next generation of emerging stars from around the globe. The agency’s acting clients include Academy Award winners Melissa Leo, Christoph Waltz,[10] Jodie Foster,[11] Robert Duvall,[12] Al Pacino,[13] William Hurt, Susan Sarandon, and Christopher Walken, as well as Hailee Steinfeld,[14] Jacki Weaver,[15] Lesley Manville,[16] Mickey Rourke,[17] Frank Langella, David Strathairn,[18] Abigail Breslin,[19] Laura Linney,[20] Samuel L. Independent and International Film

The ICM International and Independent Group structures and arranges financing and packaging, and secures distribution for independent motion pictures. Recent motion pictures in which the agency has been involved in include Fox Searchlight's Crazy Heart, starring Jeff Bridges, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Robert Duvall, and directed by Scott Cooper ;[33] Richard Eyre’s The Other Man,[34] starring Liam Neeson, Antonio Banderas and Laura Linney; Roman Polanski's The Ghost Writer,[35] starring Pierce Brosnan, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Williams, and Kim Cattrall; James Toback's documentary Tyson,[36] which was the official selection in Un Certain Regard at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and won a specially named "Knockout" prize; Chris Rock's documentary Good Hair ,[5] which premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and won a special jury prize; and The Women,[37] directed by Diane English and starring Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Debra Messing, Jada Pinkett Smith, Candice Bergen, and Bette Midler.

ICM represents executive producers and other showrunners that have packaged hit shows such as Grey’s Anatomy; Dancing with the Stars; Modern Family Cougar Town; Blue Bloods; House; Friends; The Simpsons; Two and a Half Men; The Ellen DeGeneres Show; America’s Next Top Model; The Big Bang Theory; Mike & Molly; Breaking Bad; Army Wives; Cheers; Sex and the City; Frasier; Scrubs; and The X-Files.

Publishing

ICM represents recipients of the Nobel Prize, Pulitzer Prize, National Book Award and many other prestigious literary honors. Among the agency’s clients are Patricia Cornwell ,[60] Thomas L. Friedman,[61] Anna Quindlen, Suze Orman, E.L. Doctorow, Walter Isaacson, Carl Hiaasen, [8] Tom Bissell, Anthony Swofford, Candace Bushnell, John Feinstein,[62] Mary Higgins Clark,[63] Carol Higgins Clark,[63] and Steve Martin. In addition, the agency represents the estates of Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss), Arthur Miller ,[64] E.B. White, and Tennessee Williams, among others. In 2009, the agency represented more than 100 titles on the New York Times Best Seller list.

Music & Comedy

ICM’s concert and live appearances department represents artists in all musical genres, including pop, rock, R&B, hip-hop, adult contemporary and country, as well as comedians and lecturers. The agency arranges engagements and tours in venues around the world for a wide range of acts including Eminem, Beyoncé ,[65] The Strokes, Muse,[66] Gaslight Anthem, Ben Folds, Gym Class Heroes, Band of Horses, Drake,[67] Elvis Costello, Neil Young, The Hold Steady, Wolf Parade, The Shins, Lou Reed, Modest Mouse, The Beach Boys, Chris Rock, D.L. Hughley,Jay Leno, Jon Stewart, Katt Williams, Rita Rudner, Ellen DeGeneres, Kathy Griffin, Dame Edna and David Spade.[68][69]

Branded Entertainment

ICM’s global branded entertainment division’s services range from celebrity endorsements, product placement and music tour sponsorships[70] to brand integration, such as the creation and packaging of original branded films and television shows.[71] The agency's celebrity endorsements department services all ICM film and television talent for on-camera, print and voiceover commercial work as well as for paid media campaigns in the U.S. and overseas .[72]

Lectures

ICM’s lectures division encompasses the topics of arts and entertainment, literature, the public and business sectors, media, women’s issues, philosophy and ethics, food, fashion, sports and motivation.[73]
