McIntosh High School, named for William McIntosh, was opened in early December of 1981.

McIntosh High School is a comprehensive four-year high school with an enrollment of 1700+ students in grades nine through twelve.The school opened in 1981-82 and has received numerous awards including:
Named a 2007 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education for having scored in the top 10% of all schools nationwide in student achievement.
Placement on Georgia's 2007 Top 25 SAT List for having the 15th highest SAT score in the state. Received Georgia's 2007 Platinum Award in the highest performance category for outstanding student achievement; one of seven high schools in the state to receive this honor.
Inclusion on Newsweek Magazine's 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 top 1300 U.S. High Schools List, placing McIntosh in the top 5% of all high schools nationwide.
McIntosh High School is located in the heart of Peachtree City, Georgia and serves Peachtree City and Tyrone. Peachtree City is a family-friendly community located 25 minutes south of Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and is known for its desirable lifestyle and its 90+ miles of golf cart paths. Fayette County is one of the state’s fastest growing counties and consists of five high schools, six middle schools, and seventeen elementary schools.
Student Life
McIntosh has athletic programs in soccer, volleyball (which won state championships in 2007), dance (which won a state championship in 2006, 2010, & 2011), and cross country (which won a state championship in 2005). Boys tennis has also been state runner up twice, in 2008 and 2010 and has been division champions for four years. Boys soccer has won three State Championships and has been state runner up for the past three years. The newly added lacrosse program was state runner-up in 2008. Not only has the newly added lacrosse program found success in post season games they have also been division champs every year since its creation.
McIntosh had the highest SAT scores in Fayette County for 2005.[2] In 2008, McIntosh's ACT scores were reported as the highest in Fayette County and the 3rd highest in the state of Georgia.[3] In 2008 and 2009, the McIntosh High School Varsity Academic Bowl team won the state championship.
The AP program is extensive and many students participate in dual enrollment through the ACCEL Program.
America's Best High School
McIntosh High School is a public secondary school located in Peachtree City, Georgia. The school, governed by the Fayette County School System, was named a Georgia School of Excellence in 2000 and 2008. In 2007, it was named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. On April 1, 2008, McIntosh was briefly featured on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams during a segment regarding high school graduation rates. McIntosh is also noted as the "Golf Cart High School" with over 500 students traveling by golf cart to school each day via over 100 miles of golf cart path in Peachtree City.
Fine Arts
McIntosh High School is well known for having one of the top Orchestra directors in the nation. Their director is Jim Hagberg.
Mr. Hagberg was raised in Sioux City, Iowa. He demonstrated an interest in music at n early age, beginning violin study in 4th grade. Upon reaching high school, he was invited to join the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, attended the Iowa All-State Orchestra all four years, received superior ratings at Solo and Ensemble Evaluations, and won the local concerto competition.
Mr. Hagberg received his Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. During his college years, he performed with several regional orchestras in the Siouxland area which afforded him the opportunity to perform a variety of orchestral music. His interest in orchestral conducting intensified while there as well.
Mr. Hagberg received his Master of Music degree from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston, Texas, studying orchestral conducting under Samuel Jones. While at Rice, Mr. Hagberg worked as orchestral manager of the Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra, and was chosen as conductor of the Campanile Orchestra, a community orchestra on the University campus.
Mr. Hagberg is founding conductor of the Brazosport Symphony Orchestra in Lake Jackson, Texas, a position he held for 21 seasons. He also conducted Symphony North of Houston, was music director at two of the largest Lutheran churches in the Houston area, and spent one year as the Visiting Associate Professor of Music at Texas Tech University.
In 1994, Mr. Hagberg moved to Cincinnati where he taught violin at the Cincinnati String Academy, and played violin for Northern Kentucky Symphony, Hamilton-Fairfield Symphony Orchestra, and the Blue Ash Symphony. He filled the Concertmaster position at the Lebanon Symphony Orchestra and was named Conductor of the Clermont Philharmonic.
In 2003, Mr. Hagberg moved to the greater Atlanta area where he was immediately contacted to fill an orchestra position at Flat Rock Middle School and Sandy Creek High School. In 2007, Mr. Hagberg transferred to McIntosh High School while continuing with Sandy Creek High School.
Additions
A new gym opened during the 2004-2005 school year, as well as a new auditorium that replaced the existing gym built in 1982.
