] near Ballala rayana durga in the Chikmagalur District of the state of Karnataka, in southern India, and flows through Chikkamagalooru, Hassan District and Mysore district before joining the Kaveri near Krishnarajasagara. ] A large reservoir has been built on the river at Gorur in the Hassan district.

Hemavati is also the name of a Melakarta Raga in the carnatic music tradition.
