The School of Law is one of four graduate programs offered byElon University . Established in2006 , the School features concentrations inBusiness ,Litigation ,Public interest , andGeneral practice . On September 19, 2006, formerSupreme Court of the United States Associate JusticeSandra Day O'Connor delivered the Dedicaton Address for the School of Law.In the fall of

In the fall of2008 , another 107 students were enrolled, placing the law school at full capacity. The North Carolina Business Court, which handles complex business litigation, uses the school’s high-tech courtroom. It is one of only a handful of law schools in the United States to have an operational court as a part of its facilities. Leary Davis, one of North Carolina's most experienced and respected legal educators, is the founding dean emeritus and a professor of law.David Gergen , a presidential advisor toRichard Nixon ,Gerald Ford ,Ronald Reagan andBill Clinton , serves as the Chair of the Advisory Board. The school collaborates with the neighboring American Judicature Society Institute of Forensic Science & Public Policy, researching issues at the intersection of law and science.
Provisional Approval
On June 7, 2008 the
American Bar Association granted provisional approval to the law school. As a result, Elon University School of Law became the 200th law school in the United States to be approved by the American Bar Association. [American Bar Association: http://www.abanet.org/legaled/approvedlawschools/approved.html] Under American Bar Association rules, the law school will become eligible for full approval in summer 2010.* In a very short time, we have built a program that is drawing interest from around the nation. We are especially proud of our focus on leadership and the opportunities our students have to interact with people who have a legacy of civic involvement and community service.” - Leary Davis, Founding Dean Emeritus and Professor of Law
* "This milestone achievement is an important step toward realizing our vision of a nationally distinctive school of law at Elon University." - Leo M. Lambert, President of Elon University
* “The ABA approval perfectly positions Elon Law to continue its progress toward becoming a national model of engaged learning in legal education." - David Gergen, Chair of the Elon University School of Law Advisory Board
National Search for a New Dean
Founding Dean Davis was appointed by Elon President Leo M. Lambert in March 2005. On August 1, 2008 Davis stepped down from his position. In choosing the timing for this decision, Davis reasoned that August 1st was the right time to transfer leadership of the law school since the law school had reached its goal of achieving provisional approval by the American Bar Association. The change will also allow Davis to concentrate on recovering from some significant health challenges he has faced over the past several months. He will remain with the school as founding dean emeritus and professor of law. In his absence, George R. Johnson, Jr. will serve as Interim Dean while the law school performs a national search for a qualified candidate to fill the position.
