Zoic Studios - written as ZŌIC - is a special effects company based in Culver City, California which primarily deals with computer generated special effects for movies and television.

Background

The name "Zoic" is derived from a Greek word meaning "life". The company was formed when three of the principals left Santa Monica, California special effects company Radium, taking many long established accounts with them.

Products

Zoic provides Post-Production, Project Management, Design Services and Media Applications to the entertainment industry. They have production facilities in Culver City, California and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and a shooting stage in North Hollywood, California.

Movies and television

Zoic has created effects for such popular TV shows as ', ', "Firefly" (which earned the team an Emmy), "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" as well as the reimagined "Battlestar Galactica". They have also worked on numerous feature films, including "Spider-Man 2", "The Day After Tomorrow" and "Serenity", and also computer video games and effects for television commercials.

The company is best known for their simulation of hand-held camera work in computer-generated effects shots, a technique commonly known as "shaky-cam."
