Texas State Highway Loop 9

Texas State Highway Loop 9

Loop 9 is a proposed state highway that will be located on the southern fringes of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and will measure about convert|45|mi|km|0|lk=on in length. It will combine with the President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT) to enclose Dallas in an outer beltway, and may serve as part of an outer beltway for Fort Worth.

The alignment of Loop 9 is currently under evaluation by a task force under the direction of county governments. The route is expected to start in Mesquite, Texas at an interchange with Interstate 20 where it may connect with the PGBT. It will run from that point southwest to Interstate 45 in Ferris, to Interstate 35E in Glenn Heights, just north of Red Oak. It will continue west through Ovilla and U.S. Highway 67 in Cedar Hill, intersecting at U.S. Highway 287 near Mansfield. It would terminate near a proposed Southwest Parkway southwest of Fort Worth. Afterwards, the route may be extended to Interstate 20 near Weatherford.

The corridor was first identified in 1968 and a preliminary study completed in 1995. A final decision on the route will likely be made by 2009. No funding has been set aside for the project, but costs for the highway could range from US$500 million to over US$1 billion.

If approved, the highway would be constructed and opened to traffic around 2012-2015.
