london_distance=Shabbington is a
village and also acivil parish withinAylesbury Vale district inBuckinghamshire ,England , about 3 miles (5 km) west ofThame (inOxfordshire ), and 7 miles (10 km) WSW ofAylesbury . The village is 2,152 acres (9 km²) in size.The village was first recorded in the
Domesday Book of 1086, when it was called "Sobintone" which is Anglo-Saxon for "Scobba's Estate". Until very recently the village was known as "Shobbington"; it was only in theVictorian era that the name was changed to its current form.The earliest record of any manor of the village dates back to 1299, when a large property was given to the
Knights of St. John of Jerusalem , however this was not where the Manor Court was held.The medieval church in the village is dedicated to St Mary Magdalene; however the church records only date from 1714, making historical information about the village harder to come by.
