Plot

Frank Abernathy is the curator of the natural history museum in Blackwater, Louisiana, and a widower who doesn't seem to have time for his daughter Jack. Frank's father, Simon, is a B-movie enthusiast who believes in extraterrestrials and shows off the movies in the local theater to Jack (his grand-daughter) and her rather adventurous boyfriend Squirrelly. One day, the whole city is not working without electricity and as Simon, Jack, and Squirrelly exit the theater, the citizens watch a mysterious object streaking through the sky and then crashes into the museum. The object, thought to be a meteor, is later revealed to be a craft containing some sort of alien lifeform. In order to adapt to the Earth's atmosphere, it latches on to the first organism it comes in contact with - the museum's most notable exhibit, a partially frozen Wooly mammoth.

A security guard witnesses the revival of the prehistoric elephant, which breaks out of its icy tomb and kills the guard. With the rampaging creature on the loose, two government agents, Powers and Whitaker, tracked the caretaker of the mammoth, Frank. While the agents and Frank try to figure out what happened, the mammoth stalked the dark forests and killed any human being that encounters it. The beast's carnage soon brought it to a huge party where Jack and Squirrelly are in attendence.

Jack and Squirrelly survived the destructive onslaught of the mammoth, and meet up with Frank and the agents. The mammoth appears before them, and kills Agent Whitaker while Agent Powers, Frank, Jack, and Squirrelly managed to survive the behemoth's wrath. While the mammoth continued its rampage, both in and out of the town's streets, the government is preparing to unleash a nuclear holocaust on the alien-possessed elephant, forcing the group to find a way to take down the creature.

After coming up with a plan to stop the mammoth, Frank, Agent Powers, Jack, and Squirrelly are joined by Simon and town sheriff Marion Morrison as they head to the local factory to encase the creature in ice just like it was before the lifeform possessed it. While on route, Squirrelly is murdered by the mammoth, much to Jack's horror, but the plan went full-speed ahead. The hate-filled juggernaut arrives at the factory, and after doused by molten steel, it slaughters Sheriff Morrison (off-screen). It is now known that liquid nitrogen is the only thing to stop the mammoth once and for all. The behemoth is then lured into a trap as the liquid nitrogen is prepared. Frank, Jack, and Agent Powers, among survivors, escape as Simon sacrifices himself to use the release valve and smash the controls that forced out the liquid nitrogen that freezes both Simon and the mammoth.

The movie ends as Simon's frozen body is kept in government hands, and the mammoth, now in a block of ice, is put back into exhibition.
