As of May 1, 2011, the city has an estimated population of 32,161, with a household number of 9,838, and a density of 239.81 persons per km². The total area is 134.11 km².
The city was founded on August 1, 1962.
Schools in Oyabe City include Isurugi Senior High School.
Local Culture and Festivals
The Oyabe Yotaka festival is in its 30th year. It has been adapted from a traditional field festival. This night event is held on the 10th and 11th of June, and spreads through the whole area as an annual function. Anyone, regardless of age or gender, can participate.
The festival is 400 years old and has been passed down from generation to generation in 84 different locations in Oyabe. Common participants in the Lion Dance include children from 6 years to about 15 years old. Among the other musical demonstrations in the festival, a gong and a shout of “Enya Farm Sir” can be heard.
- Helicopter and Disaster Prevention Festival
Time:August 26th and 27th.
Place: Crossland Oyabe.
Outline: Helicopters are exhibited.
The local Self-Defense Forces usually prepare curry rice for visitors. Helicopters sides are typically available.
- Calamus Festival (Flower Festival)
Time:June 18th
Place: The Oyabe dry riverbed park.
Outside: Calamus is sold at the stumps.
Calamus has 212 kinds. There are 1,200,000 bulbs planted each year. A gold fish catching event is also held during the Festival.
