Help desk humor

Help desk humor

Help desk humor is a genre of humor that arose toward the end of the 20th century in conjunction with the rise of the personal computer. With more common usage of computers came an accompanying rise in calls to help desks for troubleshooting and technical support. Help desk humor derives from the tension between knowledgeable "power users" who staff the help desks and the "unbelievably ignorant" users who call in, or the "incredibly stupid" tech support and the more knowledgeable users.
