country music radio station licensed toKansas City, Kansas . The outlet operates at 94.1 MHz with an ERP of 100 kW under ownership of Wilks Broadcasting, who purchased the station from CBS Radio in 2006. Upon taking over the station, Wilks cut many long time staffers, including midday host Rusty Walker, night host Tim Peters, morning news man Randy Birch, and overnight host Joy.The station has been home to a country music format since it debuted in 1963. Originally KCKN-FM, the station was a simulcast of its AM counterpart at 1340 kHz (now
KDTD ). The simulcast ended in 1982, when the AM station became album rock KRKR and the FM station adopted the current call letters. KFKF has been a staple in Kansas City's media market, weathering competition from various upstarts and rivals, including sister stationKBEQ . Recently, KBEQ has had the better ratings of the two, but KFKF has a strong listener base.External links
