Coboconk is a community in the City of Kawartha Lakes, in south-central
Ontario ,Canada . Coboconk is located on the border of the geographic townships of Bexley and Somerville, at the junction of Highway 35 and Kawartha Lakes Road 48. It is also on the northern tip of Balsam Lake, and the southernmost point of the Gull River drainage system, a major system for controlling theTrent-Severn Waterway .Coboconk was founded in
1851 . The name is from the Ojibwa term "gakaabikaang", meaning "waterfalls". For a time, the community's railway station was named Shedden after the president of theToronto and Nipissing Railway . Local residents had the original name restored in1880 .The local post office on Albert St. services locals with lock boxes and 1 rural route.
