Sir Mark (Evelyn) Heath, KCVO CMG (1927 - 2005), a British diplomat, was Her Britannic Majesty's Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Holy See 1980-1982, and the first Ambassador to the Holy See, 1982-1985.
Heath was born at Emsworth, Hampshire and educated at Marlborough College and the University of Cambridge. During World War II he served on minesweepers with the RNVR. He joined the Foreign Office in 1950.
Sir Mark was Ambassador to Chad 1975-1978, and had previously been Inspector, and Head of the West African Department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. After retiring from the Diplomatic Service he was Head of Protocol for the Hong Kong Government (1985-1988). He was made a CMG in 1980, then was knighted and made a KCVO the same year.
In 1954 he married Margaret, daughter of Nobel-laureate Lawrence Bragg. He died in 2005.[1]
