"Last Resort" is the debut single from Papa Roach's first album, "Infest" (2000), and first released single in total. It peaked at #1 on Modern Rock Tracks and #3 in the UK.

Cover versions

The song was featured in "Weird Al" Yankovic's medley "Angry White Boy Polka" on his 2003 album "Poodle Hat" - however, the word "fuck" is censored with a squeaky sound effect, similar to what Al did with Nine Inch Nails' "Closer" in his medley "The Alternative Polka" on his album "Bad Hair Day".
Richard Cheese covered the song on his record Lounge Against the Machine.

Music video and composition

In the music video Papa Roach performs on a dance floor surrounded by fans. Throughout the video, the camera zooms in on a few of the fans near the stage and shows them in depression. There are many posters for radio station 98 Rock. This is the rock station out of Sacramento, CA that Papa Roach credit for jump starting their career. Inside the "Infest" booklet are thanks to DJs of the radio station. On the MuchMusic version, the word "Resort" is completely removed with no replacement.

Metallica's Kirk Hammett claims that the main riff of the song is a rip-off of the Iron Maiden song, Hallowed Be Thy Name [http://geocities.com/hetfieldinter/metplayboy8.htm] , however, the riff more so resembles the ending riff of Genghis Khan, also by Iron Maiden. Also many Tourniquet fans believe the main riff is a rip-off from the song Ark of Suffering by Tourniquet, as the riff at 3.13 off the song comes close to the riff from Last Resort.

Other uses

On a 2000 episode of "Saturday Night Live" the song was featured in a Culp Family Musical Performances skit with the word "fuck" replaced with "fork".

Professional wrestler Sick Nick Mondo used this as his theme in Combat Zone Wrestling until his retirement from wrestling in 2003. The song was also used in the 2001 drama, Pay It Forward.

Professional wrestler Bryan Danielson used this as his theme in Pro Wrestling NOAH during his stay there. He later changed his theme to "The Final Countdown" by Europe.

The song was also used in the hit film The One (film) starring Jet Li.

Last Resort was used in the second episode of season one of 'Smallville'.
