Historical background

The Egyptian Military Technical College was established to aid in the fulfillment of one basic principle of the 23rd July revolution: to build a strong Egyptian army.[citation needed] As the first step in building this army, the role of recent technologies and modern trends in armament was considered. The idea of establishing a technical military academy became essential to supplying the new army with engineers.

On October 27, 1957, the Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces issued an order to establish a scientific military college under the name of "The Military College for Science" and the program took up residence in Abd El-Rehiem Sabry Palace in Dokky, Cairo in 1958.

The educational foundation and teaching plans were established by a group of Czechoslovak experts and Egyptian university professors in cooperation with the Czechoslovak Military Academy of Brno, Czechoslovakia.

The Military College for Science became the Military Technical College according to the re-organizational instructions that were issued on September 7, 1959.

The College started to qualify its own Egyptian teaching staff at 1960. The early groups were sent to the Czechoslovak Military Academy to get their Ph.D degrees in different specialized areas between 1964 and 1975. Later groups were sent to distinguished universities in France, Great Britain, and USA since 1977.[citation needed] The role of the Czechoslovak faculty members ended in 1978 and the college began to depend solely on its own staff.

In 1978, the college was assigned to start graduate studies for the professional officers of the Egyptian Armed Forces. Several Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees, as well as graduate professional diplomas, have already been awarded.[citation needed]

Thousands of B.Sc. engineer officers have graduated from the Military Technical College. With the cooperation among Egypt, Arab, and African countries, there have also been foreign cadets who have graduated and finished their graduate studies at the Military Technical College.
