Chilliwack Airport, (IATA: YCW, ICAO: CYCW), is located adjacent to Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada.
Well known as a "Fly for pie" airport due to popularity of their airport cafe that attracts mainly weekend pilots from the US and the Lower Mainland.
Chilliwack Flight Fest
Every year in the last week of August the airport hosts an event known as the Chilliwack Flight Fest, a free air show for everyone to watch. The show is a great hit with families, and enthusiasts are welcome to fly their own aircraft. "Fresh Hot Pie's" at the Airport Coffee Shop' originated in the 1970's by Neil C."Bud" Mc Neill, and Kathleen "Kitty" Mc Neill. The Airport Coffee Shop was closed for many years. A new way was needed to get Pilots to land and eat. As a recent retiree from a long and distinguished Military Service and a Retired Army Chef, he enticed Flyers to land with fresh cooked Pies! "Calling ahead by Radio" became a service too, for Pilots. By Radioing ahead before landing Pilots could order a meal, similar to a Truck Stop Cafe's of that era. This service caught on fast with Pilots. Bud and Kitty left the Airport Coffee Shop in 1975, due to a family death in Alberta. The Old Chilliwack Roundhouse Airport and Airport Coffee Shop was torn down soon afterwards, and replaced with a fully modern Airport, with Restaurant facilities. They still serve "Fresh Cooked Pie's" to this day. Chilliwack Airport is know across the West Coast of North America to flyers as, the "Little Airport with Fresh cooked Pie's".
