History
The high school was constructed in 1996 and completed in 1997 as a joint venture between the Memphis City Schools district and the Shelby County Schools district. The school opened during the 1997-1998 school year to a class of freshmen as a school within the Shelby County Schools. The freshmen of the 1997-98 school year voted the school colors to be green and black, and the school's mascot to be the wolf. Each of the following years the school added a new class until 2001 the first graduating class left Cordova High School.
The 2003-04 school year ended with Cordova High school leaving the Shelby County Schools district and joining the Memphis City Schools district. Cordova adopted a school uniform policy in Fall 2004, since the entire Memphis City Schools district adopted a uniform policy and all schools were required to adopt one at the time.
Shortly after Memphis City annexed this school, security was increased; security cameras were installed, a strict hall monitoring policy was put into place, metal detectors were installed, as well as an increased police presence in order to deter fights and gang activity. The doors maintain a strict "closed at all times" policy unless a school official unlocks it for a student. The students are required at all times to maintain a student ID, as well as IDs for all their various activities (i.e. a "Yearbook Staff" ID).
