Micah Ortega is best known as a guitarist for Five Iron Frenzy. He was born on May 31, 1976 in Greeley, Colorado[1] and is a graduate of Heritage High School in Littleton, Colorado. His constant absence from band rehearsals prompted the song "Where Is Micah?" on Five Iron's album Our Newest Album Ever!.Rap Side Micah
Even while with Five Iron, Micah has sought to improve his musical repertoire. Though Five Iron was a third wave ska band, he managed to feature his hip-hop skills on their album All the Hype That Money Can Buy (2000). He DJ'ed on The Echoing Green's album Supernova (2000), and, taking the pseudonym DJ Mizzicah, on Brave Saint Saturns' first album, So Far from Home (2000).
Micah also shows his hip-hop talent touring and recording with Soul-Junk. His involvement with the avant-garde group began in 2000 when Five Iron and Soul-Junk toured together with 5 Minute Walk Records. Mizzicah appears with Soul-Junk on the EP 1942 (2001), the album 1958 (2003), and various compilation tracks.
In 2003 he co-engineered Five Iron's final studio release, The End Is Here. His latest forays into hip-hop produced an EP entitled Rap Music with “Alan the Fisherman” (R. Alan Brooks II). Micah has continued making music with Alan (now known as Soul Daddy): Soul Daddy.
Micah now works with Fastlane Productions [1], where he holds the position of lead audio engineer.
