Notable_instruments =Brave Saint Saturn is a
Christian rock band formed inDenver, Colorado in 1995.cite web | url=http://www.christianitytoday.com/music/artists/bravesaintsaturn.html | title=Brave Saint Saturn | work=Christianity Today | accessdate=2007-11-21] The band is a side-project of former members ofFive Iron Frenzy (FIF) started byReese Roper . The band calls their music style "astro-rock". The band also coined and encourages the use of "BS2" as a short nickname for the band.cite book | last=Powell | first=Mark Allan | title=Encyclopedia of Contemporary Christian Music | year=2002 | publisher=Hendrickson Publishers | location=Peabody, MA | isbn=1-56563-679-1 | edition=1st edition | pages=pp. 107]Background
Before the band was signed, they were called Astronaut. As a result "Astronaut Versions" of several early BS2 songs exist. The "Astronaut Version" of "Two-Twenty-Nine" is available on the compilation "Manna 2 Go" (fifty280 records). An otherwise unreleased Astronaut song, "Albatross," is also available on "Green Manna" (fifty280 records) [cite web | url=http://www.drindustrial.com/labelInfoMain.php?label_id=211&cd_id=1572 | title=Label Info for Fifty280 Records | work=Dr. Industrial | accessdate=2008-10-11]
Some reviewers consider Brave Saint Saturn as a generally more serious band than the often light-hearted FIF. As the former leader of FIF, Roper found FIF too straightforward fun for expressing feelings of loneliness and abandonment. BS2 is the platform for the more depressed and sad lyrics which Roper has written. When speaking of the band Roper states that "I've tried to show the redemption and peace of God through tragic things. I think overall the lyrics are about … hope."
BS2 often uses the vastness of space as a metaphor for loneliness. With this in mind, the band used
NASA recordings and electronic samples on their first two albums.The third and final album of the "Saturn 5 trilogy," [cite web | url=http://www.bravesaintsaturnstore.com/antimeridian-preorder.html | title=Anti-Meridian | work=Brave Saint Saturn | accessdate=2008-10-10] "Anti-Meridian", was released on
2008-09-15 . The physical album in only available through the band's website store, but digital copies were made available at various online digital music stores. [citation | title=Yet another NEW song! | accessdate=2008-10-10 | date=2008-09-12 | publisher=MySpace ]Members
