Pearn, nicknamed Alan and/or Pearny, played club hockey for Gloucester City and Reading, moved to Spain after the Athens Games to compete for Real Club de Polo in Barcelona before returning to England as player/coach for East Grinstead. He made his debut for England in 1995, playing The Netherlands.
