John Henry Gilmore, Jr. (born September 21, 1979 in Marquette, Michigan) is an American football tight end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League. He was originally drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the sixth round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He played college football at Penn State.

Gilmore played the first six seasons of his career with the Chicago Bears.

Early years

Gilmore went to Wilson High School in West Lawn, Pennsylvania and was taught by Mrs. Holly Hartman who recognized his potential early in his career. He played football there and was voted Wilson's 1996 male athlete of the year, Associated Press first-team All-State, and first team all county (Berks).

Personal

Gilmore drew a small amount of media attention on July 22, 2006, after he was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana. Initially, the altercation started when Gilmore refused to leave a bar, and later refused to be handcuffed by police officers.
