- Goodwood Road, Adelaide
Goodwood Road is a major north-south arterial road, approximately 10 kilometres long, running from the
Central Business District to theAdelaide suburbs of Pasadena and Panorama [cite book|title=2003 Adelaide Street Directory, 41st Edition |publisher=UBD (A Division of Universal Press Pty Ltd) |year=2003 |isbn=0-7319-1441-4] . Starting at the intersection of Anzac Highway, West Terrace and South Terrace in the south-western corner of the Adelaide CBD, the road continues south, through the southernAdelaide Parklands , where it crosses Greenhill Road, passing theRoyal Adelaide Showgrounds , crossing the Glenelg tramline and on to the Goodwood subway adjacent to the former Millswood Railway Station. This is a deep road underpass, which has double lane traffic in both directions and an elevated pedestrian walkway along the western wall. It was originally built for tram traffic to pass safely under the
Belair Railway Line , although trams have stopped travelling along Goodwood Road and the tracks were removed several decades ago.The road continues south, passing the intersection of Cross Road, which is one of the busiest along the route and is now monitored by speed and red light cameras. The next major interestion is where Edward Street and Grange Road meet, followed by the rather disjointed intersections of Springbank and Daws Road. Located along these intersections are the Daw Park Repatriation Hospital, Pasadena High School, the
Douglas Mawson Institute of TAFE andBedford Industries .Goodwood Road continues south for almost another kilometre, passing
Centennial Park Cemetery on the right before bending in a south-westerly direction. It is a this point that the name, Goodwood Road ends and is replaced by Fiveash Drive, although there is no change in the structure of the thoroughfare itself.References
