Jaša Tomić (1856-1922), a Serb publicist and politician fromVojvodina . InSerbian Cyrillic , the town is known as Јаша Томић, in SerbianLatin and Croatian as "Jaša Tomić", in German as "Modosch", in Hungarian as "Módos", in Romanian as "Modoş", and in Banat Bulgarian as "Modoš". Old name for the town used in the Serbian language was "Modoš" (Модош).History

During the Ottoman rule, in 1660-6, Modoš was populated by ethnicSerbs . Serbia n army entered into the town, but it was soon, in July 1919, given toRomania , which was confirmed by theTreaty of Versailles . In 1924, the town, together with two other villages (Pardanj (todayMeđa ) andŠurjan ) was transferred to theKingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in change for townJimbolia and three other places, which were transferred to Romania.Formerly, Jaša Tomić was a seat of the municipality, but after
World War II , the seat of the municipality was moved toSečanj . However, even today, Jaša Tomić is the largest settlement in the municipality as well as the only settlement in municipality with town status (Sečanj, the current seat of municipality, is only a village).In 2005, the town was devastated by floods.
