As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,575 people, 524 households, and 290 families residing in the village. Thepopulation density was 2,424.6 people per square mile (935.6/km²). There were 573 housing units at an average density of 882.1/sq mi (340.4/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 95.62% White, 1.21% Black or African American, 0.32% Native American, 1.78% Asian, 0.19% from other races, and 0.89% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.70% of the population.There were 524 households out of which 27.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.0% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 44.5% were non-families. 36.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.18 and the average family size was 2.87.
In the village the population was spread out with 17.0% under the age of 18, 34.4% from 18 to 24, 21.8% from 25 to 44, 14.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 24 years. For every 100 females there were 91.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.9 males.
