- Langbaurgh (wapentake)
Langbaurgh was a
wapentake (hundred), orliberty , of theNorth Riding of Yorkshire . It covered an area on the northern coast of the county, includingMiddlesbrough , Easby,Great Ayton ,Guisborough ,Marske-by-the-Sea ,Maltby , Easington,Redcar , andWhitby - the Cleveland area.The wapentake had two divisions, the western and eastern.
The name was re-used for the
non-metropolitan district of "Langbaurgh", created in 1974, and known since 1996 as theunitary authority ofRedcar and Cleveland .References
