Abney was a star receiver/kick returner for the University of Kentucky. Abney left Kentucky with the second-most receiving yards in school history, and the second-most all-purpose yards in SEC history.[1][2] Abney was drafted in the 7th round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens, but was released without playing a game. Abney was signed by the Chicago Bears in the 2005 offseason but again did not play a game.
While in high school, Abney played wide receiver for D.C. Everest High School in Schofield, Wisconsin. He led the Evergreens to a 14-0 record and a Division 1 state title his senior season. He caught 62 passes for 1,309 yards and 14 touchdowns. Abney was also given first team All-State honors in both his junior and senior seasons. He was voted on to the second team his sophomore year.
