Don McIver

Don McIver (born 1965) is a performance poet[1] who first started performing his work in Denver, Colorado in the late 1980s before moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico. He spent some time writing fiction, essays, and articles, before returning to poetry in 1997.

Since 1997, McIver has performed all over New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona, with stints in New York City, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Omaha, Nebraska, and Austin, Texas. He also has a radio presence as the host and producer of KUNM's Spoken Word Hour,[2] including being the co-producer of "The Poetry of VietNam," recognized as a Program of Special Merit by the National Federation of Community Broadcasters (NFCB) and "Slam: Literary Fad of Movement." He has produced two CDs: "Maze: Spoken Word by Don McIver," and "Sacred," and is the author of "The Noisy Pen", published by Iuniverse Press.

As a poetry producer, McIver has produced fundraisers and local competitions. In addition, he was the Media Director for the 2005 National Poetry Slam, which was the largest poetry event in the world, with over 400 participants and 18,000-22,000 spectators, and a sold out finals audience of 2,400 people. McIver is also the director of public relations for the Alzheimer's Poetry Project.[3]
