Season 3
Coyle arrives and is immediately respected and sponsored by Kenny Wangler. Wangler introduces him to fellow Homeboys Junior Pierce and Arnold "Poet" Jackson. Jackson is now being referred to as his birth name Arnold so Coyle jokingly makes a reference to Diff'rent Strokes asking if Pierce is named Willis. Wangler is told by Antonio Nappa that drugs are being brought into Oz and he does not want Coyle to hear anything until his loyalty has been tested. Wangler tests his loyalty as they do in the projects by having the entire gang beat him down to see how he reacts. Coyle takes the beating like a man and gets the confidence of Wangler, Poet, and Pierce. Nappa still does not trust Coyle and transfers him out of the kitchen to the barbershop. In the barbershop, Coyle admits to inmate Augustus Hill that he murdered an Italian American family for fun on the outside never getting caught. Because of the way in which he handles the shaving razors, Hill believes him and is absolutely disgusted by the way that Coyle would meaninglessly murder an innocent family. With the help of Kareem Said, Hill goes to Warden Glynn telling him about how there is a videotape proving Coyle's crime. As a result Coyle is now about to get moved to Death Row. Kenny Wangler vows to kill Augustus, but Kareem Said enlists the help of the Italians, Latinos, and even the Aryan Brotherhood to agree to protect Hill from the Homeboys, counting on the reverence that Nappa, Hernandez, and Schillinger have for the idea of family. Nappa tells Said that he'll "do one better" and has the Italians murder Coyle in his cell to guarantee that Hill won't be touched, and also partly because Coyle's victims were Italians. The Homeboys as a result get a loud and clear message to not touch Augustus being that the Muslims, Aryans, Italians, and Latinos will be ready to confront them if they think to make a move.
