Opened in
1987 , the hotel went under a major revamp from August2004 to March2005 . The hotel was closed from August to30 November 2004 . It reopened the following day, but the hotel was fully completed in March. The hotel was totally upgraded, and given a more comtemporary look. It was designed by LTW Design Works, which worked on its sister hotel,The Oriental Bangkok . Both these hotels are managed by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.On

8 July 2005 , SNOC president and defence minister,Teo Chee Hean , hosted a dinner for IOC members during the117th IOC Session at the newly upgraded coffee house, Melt - The World Cafe. It was at this meeting that IOC President,Jacques Rogge , gave a perfect score to the Singapore organisers of the session.Awards
