Shelby County Airport (Alabama)

is a county-owned public-use airport located in Calera, four miles (6 km) southeast of the central business district of the city of Alabaster, in Shelby County, Alabama, United States. According to the FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2007-2011, it is categorized as a "reliever airport". Facilities and aircraft

Shelby County Airport covers an area of 125 acres (51 ha) which contains one asphalt paved runway (15/33) measuring 5,000 x 75 ft (1,524 x 23 m). For 12-month period ending January 4, 2006, the airport had 20,848 aircraft operations, an average of 57 per day: 99% general aviation and 1% military. At that time there were 84 aircraft based at this airport: 85% single-engine and 15% multi-engine. It is the first Reliever Airport with 19 employees.Fact|date=March 2008

Accidents

On September 23, 2006, a Beechcraft Bonanza F-33 crashed just before the start of an airshow. The pilot was giving rides to the public and had two passengers aboard. All aboard were killed. The passengers included a father and his 11-year-old son. [cite web
