Playing career

Weighing in at 104 kg and with a height of 180 cm, Fa'alogo is a versatile second rower with a reputation for a high work rate and solid defence.

Fa'alogo played in the Bartercard Cup before being signed to the National Rugby League.[3]

In 2006 he won the George Piggins Medal as the South Sydney club's best and fairest player of the season.[4]

He came under intense scrutiny on 1 September 2007 in a match against the Sydney Roosters, in which he "king-hit" Roosters five-eighth Braith Anasta, which resulted in a seven-week playing ban from the NRL judiciary.

In 2008 he was sent home from a club trip to Florida and fined $10,000 after punching a member of the public at a taxi rank.[5]

In September 2009 he punched coach Jason Taylor in the head during end of season celebrations, knocking him to the ground. He was reportedly provoked by Taylor's rough horseplay.[6]

Off the field the "hardman" of league is married to wife Melissa and according to the South Sydney website Fa'alogo enjoys horse riding, jet skiing and the TV show CSI.

He is of Samoan descent, although was not named in the Samoan training Squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.

In August 2008, Fa'alogo was named in the New Zealand training squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup,[7] and in October 2008, he was named in the final 24-man Kiwi squad.[8] Fa'alogo featured in the 17-man squad that defeated Australia in the final of the 2008 World Cup to claim New Zealand's first title.[9]

Fa'alogo signed a four year deal with English Super League club Huddersfield Giants in May 2009, for the start of the 2010 season. If the contract is honoured to its end, it would keep Fa'alogo at the club until he is the age of 33. It would make Fa'alogo one of two 2008 World Cup winners in the Super League at the start of the 2010 season, the other being Thomas Leuluai.

On 17 September, Fa'alogo's contract with South Sydney was terminated due to an altercation with coach Jason Taylor at the rabbitohs' 'Mad Monday' celebrations at the Forresters hotel in Surry Hills. Taylor also lost his position over the incident.

Rugby League International Origin Match

David Fa'alogo was selected for the Exiles squad for the Rugby League International Origin Match against England at Headingley on 10 June 2011.[10]
