Galvão Bueno

Galvão Bueno

Carlos Eduardo dos Santos Galvão Bueno, usually known as Galvão Bueno, is a Brazilian sports commentator famous nationwide for his affiliation with Globo TV, where he is the head of the sports department and the official host of Formula One races, National Team matches, key Brazilian football matches and most important sports events.

Born on July 21, 1950, in Rio de Janeiro city, the son of an actress, Mildred dos Santos, and a journalist, Aldo Viana Galvão Bueno, he is married to the journalist Desirée Soares and lives in Londrina, Paraná with his wife and his younger son, Luca. His two elder sons (Carlos and Paulo), both from his first marriage, are car racers. Carlos "Cacá" Bueno and Paulo "Popó" Bueno are both in the Brazilian Stock Car series, after long careers which included some time in European categories.

Bueno's style is flashy, pointed with superlative adjectives, and a passionate approach, though keeping a low tone most of time.

In his football narrations, he is usually supported by the following co-commentators:

* José Roberto Wright (former referee)
* Arnaldo Cézar Coelho (former referee)
* Walter Casagrande (former footballer)
* Paulo Roberto Falcão (former footballer of 1982 FIFA World Cup fame)

He is also known to be or have been friends with Brazilian sport stars (like Ronaldo and the late Ayrton Senna).

Hosting Formula One races since 1980 (then in TV Bandeirantes), Bueno's style has established the standard for racing hosting in Brazilian TV. The peak of his popularity was from 1988-1994, when he narrated nearly all victories of Ayrton Senna.

In 1992, he ventured a one-year deal with a new TV network (OMTV, now CNT) but came back to Globo soon enough to host the four last football World Cups and Ayrton Senna's death.

Taglines:
