Choichirō Yatani (矢谷 暢一郎, Yatani Choichirō) is a Doctor of Psychology, and Professor of Psychology at Alfred State College. He also taught Japanese at Alfred University, just across the street from Alfred State.
Choichiro Yatani made news headlines in 1986 (a resident of the USA for 9 years at the time) when returning from an academic conference in Amsterdam, at which point he was detained for 44 days because his name was listed on the United States Department of State's "Lookout Lists of Undesirable Aliens".[1] He later sued the United States government in an attempt to remove his name from the lists, the first legal challenge of its type.
