Lalo Alcaraz

Lalo Alcaraz (born Eduardo López Alcaraz, 1964) is a Mexican-American cartoonist and multimedia humorist now best known for his daily syndicated comic strip "La Cucaracha". Alcaraz was born in the San Diego, California area and grew up in the neighboring city of Lemon Grove.

Alcaraz began drawing editorial cartoons for his college paper, San Diego State University's "Daily Aztec", in the late 1980s. His first national exposure was in 1985 when Charles Erickson's Hispanic Link News Service began publishing his work. Comics by Alcaraz have appeared in English- and Spanish-language publications including The "New York Times", "The Village Voice", and "The Los Angeles Times". Since 1992 he has drawn a panel for the "LA Weekly" of Los Angeles. In late 2002, "La Cucaracha" debuted in daily newspapers nationwide.

His work deals primarily, but not exclusively, with political themes of concern to Latinos.

He attended San Diego State University, where he graduated with a degree in art. He then earned a master's degree in architecture from UC Berkeley, during which time he met his wife, Victoria P. Landeros. Alcaraz has three children: Amaya, Santiago and Paloma.

He is a host of "The Pocho Hour of Power", a weekly political humor show originating in the studios of Pacifica Radio's KPFK and heard on other stations as well.
