Kodad

Kodad or Kodada is a town and mandal headquarters in the Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh, South India. It is located on the National Highway 9 (India) between Hyderabad and Vijayawada.

Description

Kodad is a business hub for the cement factories, rice paddy cultivation and parboiled rice production. You can find limestone mines in and around Kodad. Kodad is the main centre for many big towns and cities of Nalgonda. It is situated right between Vijayawada and Hyderabad providing a halt in the journey. It is the centre of Miryalaguda, Khammam, Huzurnagar and many other towns around it.

Kodad is the border of Telangana and Andhra and also has borders with 3 districts viz., Khammam, Krishna and Guntur (other bank of river Krishna). It is a place with large number of migrants from neighbouring districts for its rich cultivable land, quality education and strong business activity. Kodad is the biggest Gram Panchayat in Andhra Pradesh and it tops the revenues in AP. Kodad is the culmination of secularism with Hindus, Muslims and Christians living in harmony & peace.

Almost 80% of the cement in the state is produced from places nearby Kodad. Also there are many industries, factories in and around Kodad providing enormous employment opportunities. Transportation

Kodad is located on NH-9 connecting Hyderabad and Vijayawada so there are at least 4 to 5 buses every half an hour that ply between Vijayawada and Hyderabad. Gannavaram Airport is nearest to Kodad, being around 100 km away. The Hyderabad Airport is 185 km. from Kodad.

Places to visit

*An ancient temple of Lord Shiva known as Sri Swayambhu Shambu Lingeshwara Swamy at Mellachervu is a historical temple with ancient reminiscences. It is a decent Linga, avatar of Shiva in white stone, which is believed to grow in length over a period of time. There is a saying that it grows and every 8 years a clear round mark is visible (which grows from small circle to a big one in 8 years) on the Linga. Also the Linga has two openings on the top, one is Ganga from which water comes out incessantly and the other hole is believed to be made by some archeologists who were trying to check the credentials of linga. It is believed that blood splashed out of the other hole, when it was drilled and these days you can see incessant water coming out from the two holes. A grand week of Shivaratri celebrations happen every year visited by thousands of pilgrims near Kodad.
*A fort at Muktyala 20 km from Kodad is interesting to visit. Next to the fort there is a Shivalayam temple on the basin of the River Krishna.

God was jealous of his rise and took his soul in a tragic accident near Orissa.
