Nuruddin Khan is a former Chief of the Bangladesh Army and former Energy Minister Bangladesh. He did not pursue a political career after the tenure of the government ended in 2001 and the Awami League lost the elections that followed.

Appointment As Bangladesh Chief of Army Staff

Lt. General Nuruddin Khan was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed Chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army by then President HM Erhad in November 1990.

He was promoted to being the Chief of Army Staff by the request of Atroshi Pir, a cult, to President Ershad in 1989.

Political career

He was elected MP of 7th Bangladesh National Assembly. During his tenure as an MP he became Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Affairs in 1996 then. However he grossly mismanaged the post and later was dismissed by the Prime Minister [1] The country faced severe power shortages during his tenure & fuel prices doubled. He stayed on as a minister enjoying all benefits and status of a minister as a Minister without a Portfolio till the fall of the Awami League Government in 2001.

Family life

Lt Gen Nuruddin Khan (Retd) is married and has two daughters and a son. His son briefly served in the Bangladesh Army. Nuruddin Khan resides in DOHS Mohakhali of the capital Dhaka.
