Oriental Orthodoxy in India is a minority comprising millions within Christianity in India. There is major overlap to Christianity in Kerala and the St. Thomas Christians, the latter of whom trace themselves back to Apostle Thomas.

The Orthodox churches in India include Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, Malabar Independent Syrian Church, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church and Chaldean Syrian Church. Kottayam, Kerala has Orthodox Theological Seminary.[1] India is a country with persecution of Christians.[2]

History

It has been written, that David of Basra conducted conversions in India in 300. [3] The Assyrian Church of the East is the mother church of Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church. [4] [5] There is Greek Orthodox missionary activity in India since the 20th century.[6]

Chaldean Syrian Church

The Chaldean Syrian Church is the Indian part of the Assyrian Church of the East. It and its Metropolitan bishop have their seat in Thrissur, Kerala.[7] The church states its number of members as being 30,000.[8]
